-Good morning, Pirate Pete!
Did you sleep well?
I was just wondering, what is a pirate's day like?
The shade moves according to the position of the Sun in the sky.
We will use that to make a note of what you do.
At 7 o'clock, you have breakfast.
After brushing your teeth, at 9 o'clock, off you go in your boat, fishing in the middle of the ocean.
At around 11 o'clock, you catch a fish.
By the time you get back, it is midday and time for lunch.
After that, a short nap.
And then, it is time to do some jobs.
It is soon 6 o'clock.
Time to tidy up a bit on the island.
And then, it is dinner time.
You have got very busy days, haven't you?
Before watches and clocks were invented, people used sun dials to tell the time.
But the Sun is going to set soon and it will be dark.
There will not be any shade to use.
And now, it is midnight, the start of a new day.
Because a whole day lasts 24 hours, the time it takes for the Earth to complete one full rotation.
There are 24 hours in a day, even though daytime begins with the sunrise and ends with the sunset.
You really should go to bed earlier, Pirate Pete, you would not be so tired.
